Alvin Tenpo > Rock Bucket on Rock Pile
Turtle Bay, Redding, CA

Dragline buckets were used to gather gravel out of the Sacramento River.

Once the gravel material was dredged, it was sorted, washed and crushed
and used in the making of Shasta Dam.

This dragline bucket and rock pile remain as a reminder of the work done in Redding in
the construction of Shasta Dam.

Mossbrae Falls is an unusual waterfall. It's spring fed and
flows over and through the porous cliff, feeding into the
Sacramento River.

The hike to Mossbrae Falls starts from the railroad crossing
on Scarlett Way.

Proceed along the railroad tracks heading north.

Use care hiking along the railroad tracks since this
is an active rail route.

After walking about 1.3 miles you'll reach a railroad trestle.
Do not cross the bridge. Mossbrae Falls will be on your right.
